As a third generation painter, and a student of prominent Chinese artist Liu Xiadong, Chi Ming has been surrounded by mentors his whole life. His work is notable in being able to take French and Soviet neo-realist styles to portray intimate and at times playful depictions of life in modern China.
In "Sleeping Beauty", Chi Ming captures perfectly the quiet intimacy of a lover’s sleep; imperfect and sentimental. Its small square frame captures an immediacy to capture the moment, not unlike a snapshot of an Instagram post. His craft highlights the romanticism of the everyday and the serenity of love.
